Ahead of our meeting

Before i met with Beth for the first time to discuss the brief i rounded up a few queries and questions i wanted to raise with her to sort some loose end out so that the brief can run smoothly and that we are both talking on the same page. There are some bits of detailing that she will need to supply me with in order for me to start generating layout variations etc. Without having body copy and images it would be hard for me to design at all. i will make this the main task that i ask of her, and i am sure she will comply.

Below is my rough question and query sheet i wrote up before the meeting:

The questions and queries that i intend to discuss at the meeting on tuesday are as follows:

What content is to be included in your lookbook in regards to:

- garment description-

- an introduction about you as a designer-

- referencing of all helpful parties. i.e. photographer

- personal contact details

- what sections are to be included along with headings

- an explanation into what the range is about/ inspired by

I think these to be suitable question for the initial details as it brings up the topic of what information is required immediately by herself for the look book to get under way.

On top of these i intend to discuss possible layout ideas that myself and herself have in mind and what form she would like the look book to take , either a small A format book or large scale publication or even a fold out poster, all of which are unknown so it will be useful having her input initially and her actually knowing what she wants rather than a client being not quite sure and me being the potential driving force for their ideas.

Just having a look at other look books i put together a small collection of images of what form it could take, just to provide visuals instead of her having to imagine, it may also open her mind up to what is possible rather than, "i will have what everyone else has got".

Below are the small collection of scans that i brought along to try and kick start the design thinking process between us:

I chose these images as it shows both a concertina, portrait and a fold out poster, both displaying similar images but in a different format.

Again depicting a concertina booklet that folds out to be a full page spread and also the bottom image as it showing that the content can be brought to life with live context shots both when photographic and in her actually show.

Here shows both centre page spreads, simple type on colour layout and single page spreads. Both could be ideas for the layout of her look book and can be discussed further.

Here i thought it was a simple example of simple photography mixed with simple yet stylish type over image with minimal space taken up with the type, leaving the image to remain dominant. i also found a little blog that may have useful styles and ideas to contribute to this brief. it can be found here.

Finally i brought this image along to show how geometry and shapes can be used to break up a page and an image to add an element of style to a page rather than it being a flat image with type.
